This training covers the different boiler types/heat exchangers in the market, what the differences are, how they need to be piped for the units to work properly, the follow up service, the importance of water quality, and finally venting; the common installation methods for cast iron products and how using primary/secondary can improve system performance and how a simple outdoor reset control can lower the clients home heating bills; the common problems with condensing boiler installations, myths about the efficiency of product and venting requirements (CPVC/PVC/Polypropylene) are discussed. We briefly cover ANSI stand 103 and the testing procedures to understand the efficiency testing process and where the AFUE numbers come from; and understanding the outdoor reset curve and the importance of using it on condensing products, adjusting for average outdoor temperatures, and how long/often we are actually at design temperature.

Registration fees includes: Catered lunch

Our Instructors:

John Monaghan got his start in the plumbing/HVAC industry right after high school. Not being interested in college, he looked to the trades and obtained a plumbing apprenticeship with a local plumbing company in Broomall, Pa. He was given the opportunity to attend an evening trade school ran by the Philadelphia Master Plumbers Association. After obtaining his Journeymen’s license in 2004 and Masters license in 2006, his focus shifted more towards hydronic heating. With a passion for radiant systems from several new construction projects and kitchen and bath remodels, he had found his calling.

Working in the Delaware County market allowed him to work on many older hydronic heating systems, both steam and hot water, and get a great understanding of getting the modern equipment to fit into these ancient systems. Then in 2014, an opportunity at Crown Boiler became available. They were looking for a technical support representative. John quickly applied, looking for a change of pace and scenery in the trade.
