This course replaces CETP 4.1 Designing and Installing Exterior Vapor Distribution Systems. PPATEC offers propane service professionals the ability to complete specific PEP modules in-person while receiving the benefit of direct hands-on training to reinforce the learning objective. The PPATEC facility offers a robust infrastructure of interior and exterior propane equipment designed to duplicate what a technician would experience in the field (learn more here). The primary focus of this class will cover designing and installing the exterior portions of a vapor distribution system for both residential and small commercial markets.

- Uncontrolled Release of Propane
- Gas Leak and Odor Call Response
- Introduction to Conducting an Exterior Customer Site Assessment
- Determining BTU Systems Demand: Introduction, Residential and Small Commercial, Large Commercial and Industrial Systems
- Installing Gas Piping and Components
- Installing Exterior Gas Piping and Components
- Joining Gas Piping & Components (Copper Tubing, CSST Tubing, Steel Piping, and Polyethylene Piping Mechanical Fittings)
- Installing Gas Pressure Regulators
- Installing Vapor Meters
- Introduction to Corrosion Prevention & Coatings
- Installing & Testing Cathodic Protection Systems
- Troubleshooting and Retrofitting Cathodic Protection Systems
- Residential and Small Commercial Regulator Operation
- Measuring Pressure & Pressure Testing New Gas Piping
- Introduction to Leak Check
- Troubleshooting Propane Leaks after Failed Testing (High-Pressure Method, Intermediate-Pressure Method, Low-Pressure Method, & Using a Vapor Method)
- Location Requirements: DOT and ASME Stationary Containers up to 2,000 gallons WC, DOT Exchange Cylinder Cages, DOT Exchange Cylinder Residential and Small Commercial
- Propane Container Sizing and Selecting
- Installing Propane Containers
- Installing Stationery and Exchange Propane Containers up to 125-gallons WC
- Installing AG and UG tanks greater than 125 gallons WC up to 2,000 gallons WC
Individuals will be assessed during the hands-on training activities in each module and receive a certificate of completion (if they pass).
Our Instructor: Gary Nouse brings over 40 years of propane industry experience, having worked for multiple marketers and suppliers since 1981. He began in entry-level roles—coating DOT cylinders, working as a service/installer technician, and driving a bobtail—and has since held nearly every position in the field. Aside from leading the propane training program at PPATEC, Gary also serves as a technical liaison for Hiltz Propane Systems and provides consulting services for jurisdictional propane systems through GLN Safety, LLC. This comprehensive background gives him a complete understanding of propane operations and safety. Gary currently serves in a leadership capacity in multiple propane industry trade associations. He uses his extensive hands-on experience to deliver practical, safety-focused training that resonates with students at all levels.
