NORA Bronze Two Week Basic Oil Heat Program

Important Disclaimer: This 80-hour oil heat training will be included as a part of our 10-Week HVAC & Energy Professional Program. In most cases, students who attend our 10-week entry level program have no previous field experience. The objective of the PPATEC 10-week program is to provide an accessible training pathway for more individuals to enter into our industry by receiving formalized training and important certifications (including NORA Bronze). The curriculum of this 80-hour will be the same as the standard NORA Bronze Basic Oil Heat Program offered by PPATEC throughout the year. However, the specific offering of this program would be most appropriate for technicians with less than 6 months of field experience due to the nature of the class.

Class Description: After 10 days of concentrated fundamental classroom theory, coupled with practical laboratory work, including hands-on experience on a variety of live-fire equipment, you will acquire a solid foundation of knowledge. This training, along with field experience, will help build careers as installation and service technicians that will become an asset to you and your customers.

The final day of training is a test day. The test takes place in the morning. Standard test times range from 30 minutes – 3 hours depending on the individual student. In nearly all cases, students are completed prior to 12:00 PM.

Bronze Certificate of Training will be awarded to each student who completes the course and passes the examination. The test is based on the NORA Oil Heat Technician’s Manual, which is used for Silver Certification.

Requirements: There are some study assignments required to be done by the students in the evening during the course. Therefore, students should consider this in fulfillment of the program.

Our Instructor: Alan Mercurio, PPA’s Lead Technical Trainer, has over 30 years of industry experience in various roles including service technician, equipment sales, and service manager. Alan is an industry author, consultant, educator, and proctor. He holds certificates as a Master Technician in the State of Pennsylvania, Silver certificate from the PPA, is NORA Gold Certified, and is EPA Certified by the VGI Training center as a type I and type II Air Conditioning Technician. He is the past president and founder of the Susquehanna Valley Chapter of OESP (Formerly NAOHSM), is on OESP’S Education committee, and is a liaison to NORA.
