This five-day hands-on course is designed to provide HVAC professionals with a deep understanding of modern inverter-driven heat pump systems – one of the fastest-growing technologies in the heating and cooling industry. Participants will learn how inverter systems operate, how they differ from traditional fixed-speed equipment, and how to diagnose, install, and service them safely and effectively. Through a mix of classroom instruction and extensive lab training, attendees will work with live inverter systems to explore variable-speed compressors, electronic expansion valves, communication controls, and advanced diagnostic tools.
Funding Opportunity: This class is approved by Penn Heat Pump Pathways. If your company and/or employee resides in Pennsylvania, then you are eligible for benefits. Contact PPATEC at training@papetroleum.org to learn more.
Key Learning Objectives
- Inverter System Fundamentals: Understand how inverter-driven compressors and variable-speed fan motors modulate performance for comfort, efficiency, and noise reduction
- System Components & Operation: Identify and explain the function of inverter boards, sensors, electronic expansion valves (EEVs), and communication circuits
- Electrical & Control Theory: Interpret inverter system wiring diagrams, control signals (DC voltage, pulse-width modulation), and safety interlocks
- Refrigeration Cycle Management: Learn how inverter systems manage refrigerant flow and pressure through advanced control logic
- Startup & Commissioning: Properly set up, test, and verify inverter heat pump operation, including refrigerant charge and system calibration
