A/C Principles, Theories, Installation & Troubleshooting

This robust 10 day class covers Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps principles. Students will progressively develop their knowledge and skills related to residential and commercial air conditioning.

The full-color AC Principles, Theories, Installation & Troubleshooting course offers classroom and hands on training leading to the EPA Technician Certification. This course will cover topics of: Electrical Controls & Wiring, Electric Motors & Compressors, Air Flow & Measurement, Refrigeration, Troubleshooting, Super Heat & Sub Cooling, and much more.

This intensive program is comprised of hands-on training in our state-of-the-art lab, video simulated operations, and classroom lecture and discussion. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, the registrant will sit for the EPA Technician Certification.

Important Disclaimer: This 80-hour A/C training will be included as a part of our 10-Week HVAC & Energy Professional Program. In most cases, students who attend our 10-week entry level program have no previous field experience. The objective of the PPATEC 10-week program is to provide an accessible training pathway for more individuals to enter into our industry by receiving formalized training and important certifications (including EPA 608 & A2L Certifications). However, the specific offering of this program would be most appropriate for technicians with less than 6 months of field experience due to the nature of the class.

Students who complete this course successfully, will progressively be able to:

  • • Demonstrate knowledge of the History and Chemistry of Refrigerant
  • • Properly troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, maintain and service popular brands of A/C units and heat pumps
  • • Perform installation and maintenance on system components including: Compressors, Evaporators, Condensers, Metering Devices, Line sets, and Filter Driers with minimal supervision
  • • Properly perform assigned duties demonstrating proper safety practices and procedures in the lab and the workplace, while installing, designing, troubleshooting and servicing systems
  • • Maintain a safe and OSHA compliant work environment
  • • Multitask and prioritize all duties and responsibilities in order of importance

Mike Elmer has been in the HVAC and plumbing industry since 2002 and has worked for leading contractors in the South Central PA region. His background includes service HVAC, plumbing, and electric. Mike currently works in the field as a lead troubleshooting service technician.
